Provincial board seeks property tax hike in Boracay

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Aklan is seeking an increase for real property taxes in this resort island starting in 2015.

Provincial board member Jose Enrique Miraflores, chairman on the committee of tourism, said the last real property tax increase was in 2005.

"The General Revisions Act emphasized that the taxation for real properties is encouraged every three years. It is but proper for us to revise the provision after nine years," said Miraflores.

The SP has started Thursday the public consultation for real properties in the 17 towns of Aklan. The schedule for consultation for real properties in Boracay is on March 6 at the SP session hall in Provincial Capitol, Kalibo.
