Parts of Kalibo Airport runway to be closed for repair

An executive of the Department of Tourism (DoT) confirmed reports that parts of the runway of the Kalibo International Airport (KIA) will be closed for a month long repair.

Art Boncato Jr., DoT assistant secretary, said the improvement of airport meant to prepare the KIA for a boost in tourism for this resort island.

Based on the advisory of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), around 400 meters of the 2,187 meters runway will be closed for asphalt overlay works at the runway number 5.

"The closure is only temporary as it aims to enhance KIA's operation in the future," said Boncato.

Because of the closure, the CAAP urges plane companies to lower their load capacity.
