Bookshelf PH Brings Unique Stories to Life at MIBF 2024

Publishing house Bookshelf PH, along with other local indie publishers, are sharing Boox that Leave a Mark with readers at the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2024 happening from September 11 to 15 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

“BooX That Leave a Mark” are gems in the publishing world.

Publishing house Bookshelf PH, along with other local indie publishers, understands this and will bring unique stories closer to literary enthusiasts at the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) 2024 from September 11 to 15 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

The band of indie publishers include Bente-Bente Zine (BBZ), Aklat Ulagad, Isang Balangay Media Productions (Balangay Books), Good Intentions Books, Grana Books, Kinaiya, San Anselmo Publications, Inc. , Alagwa, and Dual Story. Together, these publishers aim to bring books outside the mainstream, as the “X” in the theme signifies going against the grain and making a mark on readers.

“Content is shared so easily and quickly online these days,” Monette Quiogue, managing partner of Bookshelf PH quips. “But people connect to books in a much more intimate way than any form of content. Our hope is to deepen that connection through the titles we’ll be showcasing at the MIBF.”

This year, Bookshelf PH curates a captivating lineup of new releases, reflecting the diverse voices and rich storytelling of Filipino authors:

Sari-Sari Stories: Romance Edition

Part of an ongoing anthology, Sari-Sari Stories: Romance Edition highlights the richness of Filipino romance, as told by various authors from different walks of life. Each story paints a picture of love in all its forms—capturing moments that are sweet, heart-wrenching, and full of charm. This collection offers a diverse portrayal of modern Filipino romance and promises readers a heartwarming experience.

It explores how to make time for spirituality amid busy lives, remain attuned to the Inner Whisper, and maintain inner peace during challenges. The book includes a Spiritual Care Kit with science-based tips and wisdom traditions for deepening your spiritual journey, alongside a journal to encourage community, service, and greater self-awareness.

The Adventures of Damgo: Betta and the Dry Lands

This children’s book, written by 16-year-old Jacqueline Dominique “Nikki” Go, is not just a whimsical adventure story but proof of the healing power of art. With illustrations made by pediatric cancer patients, the story follows Damgo as he journeys through mystical lands and befriends Betta, the flying fish. Proceeds from the book go to the Damgo Art Therapy Foundation, which supports art therapy programs for children in Bahay Aruga.

Get the chance to meet Nikki at her stage feature and book signing on September 14, 2-4pm.
